This is the 20 Page submission that I have sent to the Varuna Writers' Centre (courtesy of the website being brought to my attention by Freya and her assistance!) for the Publisher Fellowships 2009!! It is far from complete and i am busy writing more and more, but I wanted to challenge myself and as the Applications close on Monday 31 August and Annie left for Argentina this week, it has been full on as they say in the trade! Oh yes and I've just done another "Tradies" article - hope the picture does it justice!!

This is the first chapter of my book - memoirs of my childhood really and inspired by reading Augusten Burrough's whacky book "Running with Scissors" - not that this is even a pale immitation of that crack pot!
I am unsure where i am going with this but i have approximately 60 more pages of handwritten work to transcribe and it is growing! Looking forward to your comments!

This continues my series on India and these events took place in Cochin on the Malabar Caost.
Luckily I was able to make my escape and avoid being torn limb from limb, before the cricket fanatics of India discovered my limited knowledge of the game.

It is only short and will be expanded upon. Is a fast paced, pulsing intro to their quickspun love.

About Quirk Berserk : A weekly article that rips into the ‘strange but true’ stories and celebrates the people involved in these unbelievable events. All commentary relates to 100% bona fide stories as reported by reputable (and sometimes frighteningly inaccurate) news agencies. So ‘click clack, front and back’ and get behind the ‘odd’ and cheer them on.

This was written after sitting in the Supreme Court and listening to a Judge hand down a lengthy sentence for murder last month. Why I do not know, but I seemed to spiral out of control, as if I was the one about to be deprived of my liberty. It was a frightening experience - like thinking that you have woken from a nightmare - but you are still really asleep.

This is a short story I'm struggling with. Trying to write from the perspective of an animal ... inspired by watching a doco on lions or something (also seen Spartacus a few too many time I guess). Early days but it's something.

This is a light hearted description of day one of a five day ayurvedic retreat in Southern India taken from my note book.
Looking back now I can afford to smile - then it was not quite so funny!

The first bit of what was meant to be a short story based on the "phone number on a bathroom wall" exercise. Unfortunately I've not managed to complete it yet.
A man suffers a loss and deals with it in the only way he knows, until an alternative is offered at a seemingly bargin price.

Ha, saw the homework for the next period and realised that I'd already done it. This is an excerpt from my travelogue where I found myself pushing through 72 hours, three countries, multiple forms of transport (boats, buses, trains and planes) and a couple of little dramas. I think it may have been censored for my mother's benefit.
Please note that this was written on my PDA and most of it whilst I was suffering from my self induced sleep deprivation, so it might seem a little disjointed. Also, the entries are in reverse order (newest first).

Aaah, got to get something up before the next meeting. Please note that the writing of this story involved more consumption of caffeinated products than were drunk by the protagonist.

This is a draft for a short play/film - it needs fleshing out. Essentially it is a black comedy about office employees who are pushed to the brink by hierarchy, proceedures and rules.

Kath and her friends are out for her birthday night, and the idea of trying something new proves too strong, with hilarious results. This is a screenplay for a short film BTW.
